Fundementalists are always flirting with the Danger of becoming Pharisees Looking for salvation through literally reading scripture without love forgetting Jesus.
The Emerging church is always flirting with the danger of becoming Sadducees -- "not knowing the Scriptures or the Power of God." Matt 22:29
According to Wikipedia, the Sadducees where quite legalistic about the law, but threw out much of the rest of scripture. Today's emerging leaders seem to be quite literal on their interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount, but are willing to through out the rest of scripture whenever it is inconvenient. There is also quite a parallel between the "not knowing the power of God" and the Open theism movement that many emerging church folks tend to subscribe to.
